If you’ve seen my entries on Facebook and Twitter, you know that I recently spent a bunch of hours re-working our digital backdrop for tomorrow night’s Rock Scarlet show. While working on it, I realized that it’s really a Psychanaut backdrop: cool space scenes and psychedelic morphing colors and swirls – so I was pretty inspired to work with it.
(mini rant: If only the video editing software was not so excruciatingly slow and buggy, really Ulead – get it together already! I don’t want to get too much into that, but the work was much slower than it had to be. Luckily I was also able to use a much better software by Sony to author the DVD – yay!)
I also re-listened to the audio intro for Rock Scarlet and realized that it actually matches the backdrop – it, too, has elements of what I want more of in the next phase…For those of you who remember it, it has some cool synth sounds and also some snippets of dialog from key movies – Wizard of Oz, Rock Horror Picture Show, A Wonderful Life, Alice in Wonderland… it says something while saying nothing – it’s all in how you hear it.
It suddenly appears obvious that all the elements of the show that have my hand directly on them: the backdrop, the audio, and the lyrics/melodies are already there for Psychanaut.
So over the next month or few, even as Rock Scarlet continues to gig, you may see some changes – not sure exactly where they will lead; but Psychanaut seems like it’ll be more in line with my own vision than our project has been up until now. We’ll still rock – how could we not? ;-) But there will be more textures and dynamics, and more overall silliness I should hope! Your fave songs will still be performed – but some arrangements and delivery may change. We’ll experiment – Should be fun!
So, do come out to Cresfest tomorrow night Sat Aug 22 – it’ll be the original Rock Scarlet lineup with Richie, Mike, Brian and I. But stay posted for some fun new changes as we find the flow and continue to go with it. My feeling is that as we approach 2012 (and not because of any election) being open to change, flexible, and putting out positive energies are even more timely.
It might be too much “cosmic-ness” to say in this blog, but in the coming months I see each of us increasingly aligning with whatever energies are dominant within us – alliances shift, hearts are swayed, like minds/hearts are connecting all over the planet. So for me, this means blossoming into an expanded musical horizon. Some people become more open, some shut down in fear. Perhaps soon we’ll all be much more transparent to one another and to ourselves – more honest and more real. “So your story’s out there for all too see – Ring that Bell it’s tolling for thee…”
